Forum Post: Products based on months

Hi, We have CRM installed today, but are looking into using more of it's features regarding products. Previously the sale staff has entered the information about the price and product in the description, but now we want to start using the actual feature for products. The "problem" is that I cannot come up with a good solution for the pricing of our products. We sell subscriptions based on a monthly fee on periods of 12, 24 or 36 months. We do not want to use the quantity field for entering this since it's possible to buy several "subscriptions" of the same products (for example, buy 5 subscriptions of the same product for 12 months). The ideal would be to have the price on the product set to the monthly cost and then have some sort of field where we could enter the subscription period (12, 24 or 36 months) and have the total price being calculated as (monthly cost*quantity*months). I thought of using units as some sort of "month" container, but it did not seem to have any impact on the price. The lazy solution is to add the same product multiple times with names like 12 months, 24 months and 36 months. But that requires a lot of work for us and it would be nice not having duplicates of the same item... Anyone have any ideas? Or is the solution here to build a custom price engine (which I don't want to do...)?
