Hi Michael Solutions were mainly introduced to support the release management processes, and the new features fill gap where previously we had to release the whole solution every time we wanted to apply updates, in 2016 this is no longer the case. The Edit Form feature will customise the default solution and is a caveat to the way solutions are generally managed, and its good that you are aware of this as it can be a common mistake, especially if your intending to to relase your changes to UAT/ Prod.
