Forum Post: Account vs Contact

Hello I need to figure out some data concepts on the CRM Dynamics. I'm very familiar with the party data model that I used many times. We are a public organization. Our mission is to protect some citizen during his life. Each protected person has his own account. The account contains many subjects like his physical and mental conditions, his required medical needs, his assets, his receivable and payable account. Futhermore, for each protected person, we have many contacts like family members, social workers, services supplier, etc. When I checked the notion of CRM account, I saw business organization with his contacts like the president, the employee, etc. For us, the assount should be associated to a protected person who is an individual not a business organization. Question(s) 1) Is it possible to do that with Dynamics CRM ? 2) is it possible to create a contact without associated with a account like some employes of our organization. 3) Is a contact become a leal, an opportunity, is the same contact with 2 différents roles with a period of time or Is it 3 différents rows one for the lead, one for the opportunity and one for the contact ? I would like a high data model that explains these concepts. Thanks in advance for your help.

Blog Post: Microsoft has started setting Dynamics 365 CE Unified Interface transition dates. Do you know yours?

Microsoft has been advising for months that its Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement customers must prepare to transition off the legacy web client and onto the Unified Interface. They had even set a deadline for completing the transition: October 1, 2020. But customers may not know that Dynamics 365 CE cloud systems are being given transition dates much sooner, as early as January 2020 according to some reports. And some Dynamics 365 experts are now raising the alarm that customers need to check to find out if their instances already have a date set by Microsoft. "This is something every single Dynamics 365 CE Online customer needs to know about or else they could potentially show up one day to work and everything would be on the new interface, which could be a real problem if you rely on customizations and functionality that does not work in the new interface," said Microsoft MVP Gus Gonzalez of Elev8 Solutions . In a new video in his "Two Minute Tuesday" series, Gonzalez walks through the details of how to find out if Microsoft has scheduled a system to be transitioned. And, he explains, the system owner can request a delay if needed, though only up to 60 days from the date that Microsoft originally set. .... Read More

Thanks for the suggestions Hugo. The strange thing is it is working on Chrome when we access the environment through a different VPN, so it seems to be a combination of the browser and method of access. Doesn't help when I need to solve the issue though. The version of Chrome is up to date. CRM is not on the latest rollup. Since we are in a UAT phase it presents too great a risk to upgrade now.

I have used the following and it works: "You could add a quick view form for the account entity. Let this form only show the subgrid for related contacts. Add the quick view form on the opportunity entity." from link: community.dynamics.com/.../how-contact-related-to-account-will-show-in-sub-grid-in-opportunity-entity

Hi Please see the answers to your questions below 1) Is it possible to do that with Dynamics CRM ? Yes, you can create an Account record to represent an individual but creating an Account record to represent an individual is overkill and you may have to add custom fields to store details like First Name, Last Name, Middle Name. Account is mostly used to represent Companies or organizations. 2) is it possible to create a contact without associated with a account like some employes of our organization. Yes, you can create contacts without associating with any Account. And you can also associate contacts with contacts either by creating relationships or connections and roles. Please refer to the link below if you would like to know about connections and roles https://www.crmsoftwareblog.com/2019/08/how-to-create-connections-and-connections-roles-in-dynamics-365/ https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/common-data-service/configure-connection-roles 3) Is a contact become a leal, an opportunity, is the same contact with 2 différents roles with a period of time or Is it 3 différents rows one for the lead, one for the opportunity and one for the contact ? The same contact will be associated with both Lead and Opportunity. No there won't be three contact records. Normally a lead comes from a new customer or client and when you qualify that lead, a contact record will be created. The Opportunity created will have that same contact associated with it.

Hello all, I am stuck on the problem originally cited by the OP which was this error: "Cannot drop type 'dbo.EntityIdCollection' because it is being referenced by object 'p_GrantAccessBulkForCreate'." I am importing from 8.2.5.4 to the initial release of 9.0.0002.3034 (Previously ran into issues, many of which have already been mentioned, trying to import to 9.0.10.10.) Before I start hacking this thing apart, does anybody have any other suggestions?

Forum Post: Bulk Process Sales Orders into Invoices

On the Sales Order View if you select an order, we have the 'CREATE INVOICE' button in the top bar. However, if we are in a system view for orders and select multiple orders, we no longer have this button to create invoices for the selected orders. Is there a way that we can create multiple invoices for a batch of orders without having to go into each order and clicking the 'CREATE INVOICE' button? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

This was the correct answer for me - restart the app pool and it's back to normal. I'm glad to have remedied this in test - I'm now prepared to deal with it if the problem repeats on the push to prod. Thanks much.

Hi, The out of box button can only convert a single order to invoice. If you want to achieve this, you will have to add you custom button which will work on multiple selected record and then call custom code to create invoices. Refer below links- docs.microsoft.com/.../sample-process-quotes-sales-orders-invoices ribbonworkbench.uservoice.com/.../129783-pass-the-currently-selected-grid-row-s-to-a-custo Hope this helps.

Forum Post: Editable Grid - Search then Sort on data

I have a couple of issues with editable grid and am trying to suss out if it is standard or known issue. 1) When i search on a column header in editable grid which produces a list of record, i cannot sort those records by another column (say date). When i try to sort, it sorts on all the records in that view instead of the records in the column header search that i did. I hope this makes sense. 2) When i try to use the clear button on the column header search, it doesn't clear the header. You have to click away from the header for it to show all the records on that view again. Many thanks! J

Blog Post: Custom connector: where PowerAutomate makes peace with Logic Apps

$

Remember this screenshot? Actually, other than Azure Functions and CDS custom actions, there is at least one other option in Power Platform which we can use to add custom code to our Power Automate Flows and/or to our Power Apps. Those are custom connectors.  We can also use custom connectors with Logic Apps, so this is where all those Azure technologies are becoming equal in a way. Although, while Flows and Power Apps can only use REST API-s, Logic Apps can also use SOAP web services. Which gives Logic Apps a little edge, but, well, how often do we use SOAP these days? Either way, the problem with custom connectors is that creating them is not quite as simple as creating an Azure Function or a CDS custom action. Here is how the lifecycle of custom connectors looks like: Source: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/custom-connectors/ The last two steps on this diagram are optional. As for the first three, the reason those first 3 steps can be quite challenging is that there are various options we have to create an API, to secure it, and to host it somewhere. Still, what if I wanted to create a simple custom connector to implement the same regex matching that I used in the previous posts for Azure Functions and CDS Custom Actions ? I could create a Web API project in the Visual Studio. There is a tutorial here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/aspnet/core/tutorials/first-web-api?view=aspnetcore-3.1&tabs=visual-studio In the remaining part of this post, I’ll show you how it worked out, and, if you wanted to get the source code for that regex Web API from github, here is a link: https://github.com/ashlega/ItAintBoring.PowerPlatformWithCode Essentially, it’s the same regex code I used for the Functions and/or for the CDS custom actions: I can try this in Postman(hiding the actual link since, depending on where I leave it, it might not be protected with any kind of authentication. You can just publish that web api from github in your tenant to get your own link): And the result comes back (although, compared to the other versions, it’s now in json format): Let’s turn this into a custom connector? There is a tutorial here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/connectors/custom-connectors/define-blank But, either way, let’s see how to do it for the regex connector above. In the power apps maker portal, choose custom connectors area: https://make.powerapps.com/ Creating a connector from scratch: When importing from sample, make sure to specify full url. This feels strange, since I would assume with the base url specified before there would be no need to specify complete path to the api below, but it just has to be there. So, here we go (nothing goes to the headers btw): With the response, there is no need to provide urls etc – just provide a sample response: Once the response has been imported, for some reason nothing actually changes on the screen – there is no indication that a response has been added, but it’s there: You can click on that “default” above, and you’ll see it: Actually, the connector is almost ready at this point and we just need to create it: And then it’s ready for testing: When creating a new connection above, you will probably find yourself taken away from the “custom connector” screens. So, once the connection has been created, go back to the “custom connectors” areas, chose your connector, open it for “edit”, and choose the newly created connection: Then we can finally test it: And we can use this new connector in the Flow: Apparently, it works just fine: But what if I wanted to add authentication to my API? Since it’s hosted in Azure as an app service, I can just go there and enable authentication: I can, then, get everything set up through the express option: Save the changes, and it’s done! Sorry, just joking – not really done yet. The connector needs to be updated now, since, so far, it does not know that authentication is required now. In order to update the connector, I need to configure the application first. The application will be there under “app registrations” in the Azure Portal – here is how it looks like in my case: There is, also, a secret: With all that in place, it’s time to update connector settings. First, let’s make it https: Here is how connector security settings look like: Application ID (client ID) from the app registration page in Azure Portal goes to the Client ID field. Secret key goes to the Client secret field. Login URL and Tenant ID are just the way they are. Resource URL is set to the same value as Client ID. Then there is that last parameter which must be copied and added to the redirect urls for my app registration in Azure Portal: Now it’s actually done. Once the connector has been updated and a new “authenticated” connection is created, I can retest the connector: It works… so I just need to update my Flow above (it will require a new connection this time), and retest the flow. It may seem as if it was quite a bit more involving than Azure Functions or CDS custom actions. But it’s probably just a matter of perception, since, come to think of it, it’s my first custom connector, and I had to figure out some of those things as I kept going. More to follow on this topic, but enough for now. Have fun!
